The Original Detroit

This month's Anniversary Bag is a re-release of "The Original Detroit" Red Small Tote. Which is the very same color and silhouette that I first made for Melanie back in 1997.
I pulled this one from our archives. It dates back to about 1999 when we were still making them in our garage.
First called "The Original Detroit" to pay homage to the birthplace of the American Automobile, and later, around 2002 we switched it to "The Original Seatbeltbag".
I designed the first HARVEYS logo using a Letraset font called, Kanban (see above). It had a very retro feel but in 2003 we changed it to the custom logo that you see today.
We first used silver Flight Satin, which is also used to make US Air force Flight Jackets. It seemed like a good match for our sturdy seatbelt. When we developed the new HARVEYS embossed lining we made sure that they kept the same "tough" properties that flight satin has. Originally, only offered with a magnetic snap closure, which is why the re-release also has a magnetic snap closure.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk down memory lane.  If you would like to find out more about the Detroit re-release, please click HERE
All this talk about Detroit is getting me excited for this weekend.
