Recipe for Success

Every Year on January 1st we have a family tradition of eating black-eyed peas. It's supposed to bring you good
luck in the New Year and I'd have to say it's worked pretty well so far.

This is Melanie's recipe:
Ingredients: 3x11oz packages of fresh black-eyed peas, 5 stocks of celery, 1 small onion, Thyme, liquid
smoke, vegetable broth w/2 quarts of water, salt and pepper.

Mince the celery and onion
then saute them in olive oil. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Then add the fresh black-eyed peas, thyme, liquid smoke and vegetable broth w/2 quarts of water.
Cover and let simmer on low heat for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
I serve mine with grated parmesan cheese and a splash of Tabasco. Best enjoyed while
watching the Rose Bowl Parade.
Now I'm ready for the new year.
